Cross Vaulted Pavillion

Architecture Design

2022

I designed a rest area at the intersection of pedestrian paths on a university campus. By intersecting vaults—structures that are both structurally rational and functionally efficient for circulation—in multiple directions, I made the intersection itself more complex. Some students simply pass through, while others wait for friends, read, or take a nap. The roof is designed as a rooftop viewing garden. I translated this roof design into a computer program, enabling it to enumerate countless possibilities through combinations of random variables. By changing the angles of the three reference pedestrian paths, the program can generate an infinite range of roof forms.
